2007 Nicolas Potel Echezeaux Grand Cru

nicolas_echezeaux Yesterday was a killer lunch tasting at the Corson Building put on by the generous folks of the Southern Odom partnership. I thought this was the most intriguing wine of the tasting, and offered more mystery than than the rest. On the nose,medium+ intensity, youthful, cherries, raspberries, loads of earth, mushroom, nutmeg, forest floor, all spice, some oak but just the right amount. On the palate, dry, medium intensity,medium- tannins, medium acidity, awesome texture that evolved a lot in the glass, earth tones, soil, graced by some pure red fruit, with serious balance, and love velvety finish. I wish I could afford this wine because it’s going to be awesome.    

2007 Nicolas Potel Clos de Veugot Grand Cru

Another barrel sample, and kicked up a couple notches in the quality and intrigue factor. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, wet clay, hay, cherry, strawberry, citrus rind, autumn leaves, not oaky, and some detectable earth beautifully woven together. Hard to believe this was a barrel sample, so soft, elegant, and ready to drink. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, classic soil and stone component, strawberry, red cherry, cinnamon, hay, nutmeg, with some oak present. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, silky tannin, medium acidity, harmonious fruit and earth, with an impressive velvety finish…Continue Reading

2007 Nicolas Potel Pommard “Les Vignots”

Barrel sample at luncheon today. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, powerful sour cherry, raspberry, dried herbs, white pepper, cooking spices, moderate oak, and earth definitely present. On the palate, dry, medium tannin, medium acidity, earth, leather, lots of spice, of a moderate finish. Just a baby but will evolve nicely.    Continue Reading
