2005 Buccella Napa Valley

Bright black purple color. On the nose, youthful, med+ intensity, classic opulent black cherry and creme de cassis fruit, with layered spice, and loaded with milky oak flavors, with no earth to speak to. On the palate, dry, med+ intensity, beautiful and full of body, with layered fruit and oak, medium tannin, and medium acidity, with a pretty rich finish but I doubt it’s worth the price tag.

2005 Garrison Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla

I winery on the rise here in WA, spendy but how many other wineries are releasing their 2005′s right now. Garnet color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, very nicely integrated cherry, plum, cedar, spice box, chocolate, coffee, very layered, with no earth to speak to, and balanced oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, full bodied, medium acidity, medium tannin, very nice balance on this wine that impressed me from the start, and finished strong. Serious rising star!

2005 Signorello Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa

Good producer, from a great vintage. Black ruby color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, with lots of meat, leather, plum, currant, some oak, and no earth to speak to. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium+ tannin, medium acidity, with good balance, layered fruit, an interesting dark intrigue factor, and descent length to the finish. This wine made we wonder if there were more layers it would reveal with time.

2005 Di Mayo Norante Ramitello

I picked up a case of this on close out, and am hoping for a diamond in the rough, 85% Prugnolo and 15% Aglianico. Dark ruby color. On the nose, developed, medium intensity, black olive, blackberry, cherry, leather, chalky, soil, sour plum, licorice, subtle oak, and some earth. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, medium+ acidity, nicely balanced foxy red fruit and spice driven red, with lots of leather and mineral on the finish. Should I keep this all, or send out the email?

Borgo Scopeto Borgonero IGT

On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, plums and cherries, black tea, anise, leather, dried herbs, framed by chalky soil component, and wrapped in a new world style french oak package. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, nice structure and balance, nicely layered, with a solid finish. The fruit on this wine is just ripe enough to wear the oak layers. Great $20 wine that will continue to evolve from a while.

2005 Corino Barolo Vigneto Arborina

Ruby color with orange rim. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, sour cherry, tar, leather, chalky soil, anise, with lots of French oak spices showing through. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium tannin, medium+ acidity, with layers of fruit, spice, mineral, and flowers, all wrapped in a nice oaky finish. 2005 Chateau du Seuit Graves

Wine I’d never heard of before from a very reputable importer. Ruby orange color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, black currant, black cherry, nice earth and basement character, cedar, spice box, leather glove, with oak and earth. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, real nice balance, and a layered finish. I’d like to try more of this wine!

2005 Robert Mondavi Reserve Cabernet Sauvingnon

I’ve got to say that there was a time in the past when Mondavi wines were over-rated, green, and inflated in price. Now the price has dropped, the quality risen, and the wines are drinking really nicely. Dark ruby in color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, black cherry, cassis, black raspberry, with wet earth, tobacco, menthol, cigar box, no earth, and well balanced oak. On the palate, dry, explosive, medium+ intensity, silky tannins, good acidity, layered spices and dark berries, with nice balance and finish. Classic Napa sexy fruit seductress wrapped in a luxurious oak gown.
