1991 Stags Leap Wine Cellars Cask 23

Ruby with brown to it. On the nose, developed, medium intensity, some stewed fruit, leather, cedar, cigar, meat, loaded with spices, and not earthy, with moderate oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, silky tannin, beautiful acidity, medium bodied, this wine was extremely delicious, a pretty attack of flowers, spices, and forest flavors like cedar and bark, with medium- length to the finish, I thought was a bit too short. Regardless, it was an honor to try this wine, and I wish I had more to analyze further.

1991 Raymond Cabernet Sauvignon Napa

This was incredible and one if the five best wines from “Old Wine Night”. On the nose, still youthful and fruity, medium+ intensity, blackberry, black cherry, heavy grain and oaty quality, which means yes on oak, not earthy, but rocking secondary spicy component. On the palate, immense I wrote in my notes, med+ tannin, medium acidity, loads of structure, I mean muscle in an elegant package, and an awing lenght on the finish. This is drinking great right now, more youthful that so many 97’s I am flat out flabbergasted. They do make wine a lot different now, I question wether modern wines will last this long in the cellar. Then again 91 was the first of those epic Napa vintages, riper and riper with each year.
