1968 D’Oliveira Madeira Bual

Brown color. On the nose, developed, medium+ intensity, very pretty bouquet, nuts, flowers, toffee, coffee, nutmeg, lots of earth, and some oak. On the palate, dry, medium+intensity, medium+ alcohol, beautifully woven flavors, earthy textures, smoke, medium+ acidity, very nice long finish, just full of spice. Awesome fortified wine.

1968 Beaulieu Vineyard George de Latour Cabernet Sauvignon

This was one of the treats from last weeks old wine night. It was a treat tasting this gem that was probably still being made by the grandfather of wine-making in the US, Andre Tchelistcheff. On the nose, wicked bouquet, medium intensity, fruit has faded, I got lots of mint, pine cone, maple syrup, leafy component, cigarbox, some basement but not overtly earthy, and some oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, med- tannin, shocked that it still had some grip, and nice long spice and herb driven finish. Probably waited a decade to long on opening this wine.
