2006 Forgeron Zinfandel Columbia Valley

Haven’t had much Zinfandel from WA that I liked, hard not to discriminate at this point. Purple ruby color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, plum, blackberry, spice, mint, leather, no earth, and some oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium acidity, medium tannin, medium body, if I had this blind I would have shrugged and said New World Merlot. Not all that interesting of a wine, lacking character which I rarely accuse Zin of.

2005 Four Vines Maverick Zinfandel

Ruby color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, gushing with red fruit, strawberry, raspberry, red plum, cobbler, some spice, vanilla, layered oak flavors, no earth but a very pretty nose. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, very silky and beautifully balanced wine with an elegant fruit driven finish. I preferred this…Continue Reading

2007 Four Vines Maverick Zinfandel

Dark ruby to purple color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, lots of black pepper, dark stewed fruit, blackberry, plum, some oak, coffee, toffee, and not earthy. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, briary element emerged, still black fruit with cracked black pepper, with a moderate finish. I enjoyed this austere Zin.    Continue Reading

2007 Orin Swift The Prisioner

I had been waiting a while to sample this wine, that’s been getting tremendous scores for a few vintages. It’s a dry farmed zinfandel based blend with a kitchen sink of other grapes in the blend. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, smoke, plum, blackberry, briary component, black pepper, licorice, not earthy, and some oak…Continue Reading

2006 Ridge Lytton Springs Zinfandel

Always a pleasant bottle of wine, and once again it delivers. Nice garnet color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, blackberry, plum, black pepper, baking spices, bramble, pea patch, some oak, but no detectable earth. On the palate, dry, very well balanced, medium tannin, medium acidity, solid long finish. Not a fruit bomb or over…Continue Reading
