2006 Cardinale Napa

Wow, this was monstrous, loaded with complexity, big explosive black cherry and currant fruit, framed by tobacco and spice, herbs, and beautifully integrated oak. On the palate, muscular, medium+ tannin, black cherry punch in the face, layered with spices, a brilliant balance, medium acidity, and a big time presence, and an awesome finish.

2008 Conn Creek Cabernet Franc

This wine really tore it up. Dark ruby in color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, cedar, cherries, currants, tobacco, layered, complex, with some oak, and no earth to speak to. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, great balance, chocolate cherry fig smoothie, laced with tobacco, vanilla, and cedar bark, with a subtle dusty component, and a solid finish.

2005 Buccella Napa Valley

Bright black purple color. On the nose, youthful, med+ intensity, classic opulent black cherry and creme de cassis fruit, with layered spice, and loaded with milky oak flavors, with no earth to speak to. On the palate, dry, med+ intensity, beautiful and full of body, with layered fruit and oak, medium tannin, and medium acidity, with a pretty rich finish but I doubt it’s worth the price tag.

2003 Merryvale Profile

Had this the night before last, insane depth! Black Garnet color. On the nose, medium+ intensity, cigar and leather, with layered black currant and black cherry, a wealth of spices, and a creamy spice driven nose. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, layered with a delicious quality I’m not so easy to give out to a wine. I simply wanted more.

2004 Stags Leap Winery Cask 23

From a three liter bottle. Ruby with brown color. On the nose, developed, medium intensity, black currants, fig, cedar, leather boot, with some oak, and some earth. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, layered mineral, tobacco, some fading black fruit, bittersweet chocolate, nice balance, and good body, with a solid finish. Very old world in style, I expected more fruit out of this format and vintage, not sure what happened.

2007 Groth Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

Purple ruby color. On the nose, youthful, black cherry, black currant, cedar, layered spices, bell pepper, with tobacco, some oak, and no real earth to speak to. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium tannins, medium+ acidity, awesome balance, bright and luscious black fruit, layered with coconut, spices, cedar, and a beautiful finish on it. I bet this will last forever in the cellar. Stock up!

2006 Franciscan Magnificat Napa Valley

Dark ruby color. On the nose, showing signs of development, medium+ intensity, loaded with black currant, black cherry, cedar bark, spice box, tobacco, subtle mineraland a perceptible density and beauty of aroma. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, fig, currant, and cherry, with layers of spice and mineral, a serious finish, and unparalleled depth and purity. I’ll bury some of this to try every year for quite a few!

2008 Kistler Chardonnay Les Noisetiers Sonoma Coast

Golden blond color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, lots of yeast, stone, pear, apple, butterscotch, lots of cooking spices, with moderate oak, and some earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium+ body, medium acidity, Asian pear, baking spices, good bready quality, mineral, with a clean finish. Very nice Chardonnay with good balance and good complexity, I can’t afford it, but I wish I had more of this.
