2008 Shaya Old Vine Verdejo Rueda

Platinum color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, guava, mango, lime, pineapple, flowers, minerals, stones, layered and very pretty, with no oak, and lots of earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, bright tropical fruit, bright acidity, a super fresh clean finish that could probably clean anything off your palate for another bite, but I was clearly fantasizing about some shell fish.

2008 Shaya Verdejo Rueda

Platinum color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, lots of stone and mineral, lily, some grass, tropical fruit, with no oak to speak to and definite earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, guava, papaya, passion fruit, medium acidity, very nice balance, with a really juicy and clean finish. Genius white that everyone should try!

2007 Soblechero Amarre Verdejo Rueda Spain

soblechero_verdejo Rueda’s smallest producer, using 60 year old organically farmed vines. On the nose, youthful, medium+ to high intensity, grapefruit, kiwi, peach, citrus, honeysuckle, floral component, lots of mineral, and no oak. On the palate, dry, laser like acidity, bright fruit, minerality, with a long zesty finish. Impressive wine that reminded me of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, with very attractive price-tag.

2007 Valdelainos Rueda Verdejo Spain

Straw in color, with some green to it, of was it the really yellow walls. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, honeydew melon, pineapple, lime, grass, sea salt, floral component, slight earth, and no detectable oak. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium+ acidity, citrus fruit, creaminess, grass, pepper, mineral, ocean character, not oaky, with a long spice filled finish. Wow, this wine rocked, and it much less expensive and more interesting than any white I’ve had in a while. Seek this out and eat some seafood.
