2007 Urban Ribera Tinta del Pais

I’ve been waiting for this wine to hit our shores for months, this wine is complex and delicious for the price point. Ruby color. On the nose, youthful, cherry, black plum, soil, tobacco, leather, subtle oak, with a nice mineral backbone. If you like Tempranillo his wine destroys it for the price.

2007 Finca Resalso Ribera del Duero

finca_resalsoRuby color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, fig, cherry, plum, leather, tobacco, dirt, milkshake, with earth and oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, very creamy nicely integrated cherry milkshake with earth and leather, and a nice tobacco finish for this moderately priced Tempranillo.

2004 O Fournier Ribera Del Duero Tinto del Pais

Nice ruby color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, cherry, plum, fig, raspberry, tobacco, lots of leather, mineral, chalky earth, lots of oak, and layered earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium+tannin, medium acidity, lots of dark fruit, leather, textured, very well balanced, with a solid punch you in the face cigar fruit finish.

2002 Pago de Los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Reserva

pago_capallanesThis was a present for helping re-bin with wine room at work. Ruby with browning edges. On the nose, evolved, big time bouquet, still some cherry, dirt, leather, cigar, meat stick, perfume, spice, some oak, and earthy. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium body, cherry fruit roll-up, tobacco, dusty earth, very nicely balanced, with a beautiful finish.

2007 Finca Resalso Ribera del Duero

finca_resalsoSecond label of Emilio Moro, 2nd time usage oak or beyond is my guess. On the nose, youthful, with plenty of dirt, medium intensity, cherry, red plum, leather, tobacco, some dried herbs, some oak spices, and loaded with earthy layers. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium body, medium tannin, medium+ acidity, this kind of dances between bright new world fruit and earth and leather glove, with a moderate finish. Asking for meat, and perhaps pork, food might make this jump out of the glass. Solid $15 retail wine from a great region.

2004 Pesquera Tinto Ribera del Duero

pesqueraI brought this to the group that now meets at Local Vine. a comparative blind tasting. Hazy to murky ruby in color. On the nose, starting to develop, medium intensity, dirt, meat, leather, cherry, plum, raspberry, licorice, lots of spice, lots of oak, lots oaf earth. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium+ tannin, medium acidity, very balanced, loaded with soil, cherry tobacco, leather, very complex, with a nice finish. I’m glad I have ten more.

2006 Vinos de Terrunos Raices de Aza Ribera Del Duero

cepa-vieja1No image on this pre-sell situation wine so I’ll use this one till someone sends me an image. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, cherry, plum, leather, cured meat, definite slim jim character, dusty dried earth, with some oak, but a real nice over-all balance. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium+ tannin, medium acidity, layered and dense, with fruit earth, and oak, and a 15 second finish. Hope more people find this one, because it rocked, although not quite as much as the Priorat from the same producer.

2004 Martin Berdugo Ribera del Duero Crianza

This was the first of ten that I asked Dieter over at Triage Wines to pick out from his catalog, and we brought it over to Bilboa Restaurant. The food was amazing, the wine was as well. I know nothing of this producer but am curious for more info and more of this great Tempranillo. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, plum, fig, currants, leather, tobacco, meat, some oak, vanilla, spice, and some earthy too. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, similar flavors on the palate, with more earth and oak, milkshake character, medium tannin, medium acidity, medium alcohol, nice balance with a moderate finish. Worth a second try, especially for under $18.
