2008 La Cana Albarino

la_cana_albarinoPlatinum color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, pineapple, pear, yellow flowers, grass, lemon rind, mineral, not oaky, with subtle earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, brilliant acidity, lemon, lime, floral component, slight tropical fruit note, with a fresh clean finish. Nice Albarino descent price point although I’d prefer these wines to be a bit cheaper.

2007 Bodegas Campante Vina Reboreda

This was referenced as the poor man’s Albarino at the tasting the other day, and performed better than other Spanish whites at twice the price. 20% Treixadura, 20% Godello, 20% Torrontes, and the rest Palomino from low yielding vines. On the nose, youthful bright fruit, melon, citrus, slate, earth, floral element, and no oak to speak of. Decent complexity for a white at $10. On the palate, dry, med intensity, slate and earth, honeydew, cantaloupe, lemongrass, citrus rind, crisp acidity, but good weight without being flabby. Nice finish, refreshing white that more people should enjoy. Stop buying crappy New World two dimensional Chardonnay. Please?
