2006 Warwick Pinotage Stellenbosch

warwick_pinotagePerhaps the first Pinotage I have ever enjoyed. On the nose youthful, plum, black raspberry, herns, rubber, smoke, band-aid, some oak, some earth too. On the palate, dry, similar fruit, medium+ tannin, medium acidity, moderate alcohol, a milkshake component, and old tire quality with black pepper and leather emerged. Fascinating wine that some might find offensive, but I thought it had enough fruit to stand up to the dominating Band-Aid of Pinotage.

Had this blind last week at the Tilth group. I guessed Old World Chenin Blanc or Pinot Gris. So close. There was a lot of flavor in this inexpensive bottling.
