2007 Tenuta Ponte Irpinia Coda di Volpe DOC

Platinum blond color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, clay, flint, applebutter, pear, nectarine, grass, lilac, no oak, but certain earth. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, nice integration of mineral, flower, and fruit, with good weight, and a good finish. This would kick serious butt with calamari, perhaps better on a beach anywhere, scungilli!

2007 Argiolas Costamolino Vermentino di Sardegna

argiolas_costaIt took about a half hour for this wine to wake up, because I had it in the fridge, and everything was so shut down aromatically. Nice golden straw color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, white peach, cantaloupe, wax, chives, lemongrass, mineral, and not oaky. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, lemon custard, herbs, oily, mineraly, with medium acidity, and a nice finish. This seemed like the perfect wine to pair with wild greens and olive oil, which would make perfect sense, it being Italy and all.
