NV Roucas Toumba Les Grands Chemins Vacqueyras

I crack this open after work last night. Don’t know much about it other than it’s non vintage Vin de Table, and comes from the Vacqueyras. I am guessing some Grenache, Syrah, and Merlot. It was extremely smooth right out of the bottle. A candy bar, Molly Dooker kind of wine. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, cherries, plums, milkshake, carmel, nougat, some earthy character, some oak also. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, shockingly new world fruit and candy bar explosion, with silky tannins, medium acidity, and a moderate finish. Very hedonistic wine, that was pretty easy to guzzle.

2006 Perrin & Fils Vacqueras Les Christins

The past few vintages have gotten some great scores and with that acclaim and a rise in price, combined with the falling dollar, and I would bet this was $17 retail a few years ago, which isn’t bad for a 90 point wine. 75% Grenache 25% Syrah from 50 year old vines. Dense ruby color. I got cherries, dried herbs, plums, earth, and a mocha quality. On the palate, dry, big structure, the tannins are wound up tightly. I liked this wine and it’s a reasonable price, for something you can lay down for five years.
