NV Perrier Jouet Brut Champagne

perrier+jouetBlonde color. This was out of a 3 liter bottle. On the nose, developed, medium intensity, bready, doughy, baked apple, lots of creamy notes, pretty spice, mineral, and some oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, beautiful body and balance, nice acidity, very creamy mouth feel, with a great finish. Always under-rated Chapamgne.

NV Krug Grand Cuvee Brut Champagne

WoW! Truly mind blowing and thought provoking. Golden blonde color. On the nose, youthful, apples, pears, lemon custard, flint, iron, lots of toasted bread, cinnamon, nutmeg, some oak, and definite earth. On the palate, dry, gorgeous weight, amazing body, near perfect acidity, with seamless integration of fruit, minerals, spices, with a very an A+ finish. Worth the money!

2000 Cristal Rosé Champagne

cristalroseA very generous patron left a very generous gratuity last night and this was part of it. Beautiful nose, of strawberry, apple, lemon, white flower, mineral, cream, brioche, slight earth, and not any oak to speak to. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, dare I say perfect acidity, extremely balanced, with an amazing finish that made me want more. Hard to say if it’s worth the price, but still an A+.

NV Billecart-Salmon Brut Blanc de Blanc Grand Cru

billecart-salmon_bdbPale straw in color, with small beads. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, stone, chalk, flint, tart apple, pear, lime, not that much bread, not oaky, but just loaded with mineral and earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium+ body, medium+ acidity, beautifully balanced, but if your looking for fruit look elsewhere, because this wine is all earth.

NV Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Reserve

billecart-salmon-nv_brutNice mousse, straw color. On the nose, youthful, baked apples, pears, loaded with bready tones, lemon cream pie, butter, some oak, and some earth. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium+ body, medium+ acidity, very creamy and moussey, with a long leesy finish.

NV Deutz Brut Classic Chamagne

deutz_classic I was floored by this beautiful champagne, and even more floored by how this wine lies in obscurity amongst popular Champagne culture here in the US. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, loaded with stone and chalk, apples, toasted nuts, bready leesy note, not oaky, and plenty of earthy flavors. On the palate, dry, awesome structure and complexity, brilliant mouth-feel, loaded with layers, and what I might call a perfect finish. More people should drink this.

NV Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé

billecart-salmonThis has been one of my go to Champagnes for some time. It always delivers, and I applaud the people that are smart enough to spot it and go for it on the menu. Pretty salmon color. On the nose, medium intensity, youthful, nice integration, chalky, strawberry, apple, spice, shortcake, and a bready component. On the palate, dry, pretty fruit, bread, earthy minerals, beautiful mouth-feel, and stunning finish. Not cheap, but one of the best in it’s price range.

NV Gatinois Brut Rosé Grand Cru

gatinoislabelThis obscure producer is in the “Grower Champagne” category, Bollinger uses this estate as a grape source for some of their top cuvees, but they keep the best parcel to label as their own. Pretty salmon color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, loaded with stony and chalky mineral, very nice spice component, flowers, strawberry, raspberry, shortcake, some oak, and definite earth. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, beautiful body and weight, great acidity, great mousse, with impressive integration on the finish.
