2006 L. A. Lignier Fixin Les Champs Vosger

Barely any images on the net about this winery, but it’s brand new basically brand new. Having enjoyed success in the 1990′s under the care of Romain Lignier, son of Hubert, the domaine was struck by tragedy a couple of years ago when Romain died suddenly of a brain tumor. His American wife, Kellen, has taken and devote her life to the future success of her late husband’s pride and joy. The new Winery is name after their children, Lucie and Auguste. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, stone and gunflint driven, immense minerality, some apples, pears, smoke, and some oak. On the palate, dry, bread and butter, big bodied, medium acidity, complex spice, smoke, and earth, and a long finish. Expensive, but this wine compete with a lot of the more expensive Cali Chardonnays.

2000 Domaine Rene Bouvier Fixin Crais de Chene

I was really hoping this would blow our minds in sunday’s blind tasting. Sadly, it did not, it was not bad in any way, it just lacked the excitement or intrigue factor. Med- intensity ruby in color, with a watery rim. On the nose, becoming bouquet, with little to no fruit, smoke, dirt, mushrooms, wet leaves, clove, cardamom, and someone else called out oregano, which nailed it. On the palate, dry, med intensity, silky tannins, medium acidity, nice finish, it has some Old world charm, just nothing that remarkable for a $28 bottle of wine.
