2007 Nicolas Potel Pommard “Les Vignots”

nicholaspotel_pommard Barrel sample at luncheon today. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, powerful sour cherry, raspberry, dried herbs, white pepper, cooking spices, moderate oak, and earth definitely present. On the palate, dry, medium tannin, medium acidity, earth, leather, lots of spice, of a moderate finish. Just a baby but will evolve nicely.

2006 Philippe Pacalet Pommard

On the nose, earth driven but still youthful, medium intensity, with elegent mushroom, bark, wet leaf, dirt, cherry cola, good spice character, not oaky, and very layered. On the palate, big-time structure for Pinot Noir, red fruit, red currants, cranberry, earth, some wood spice, med tannins, med acidity, iron fist velvet glove type of finish.

2002 Domaine de Courcel Pommard Grand Clos des Epenots Premier Cru

A quarter of a bottle was a gift from a collegue at the end of my shift. Right away smell the dirt and limestone, with black cherry cola, hay and violets. Then minutes later dusty strawberry emerged.
Thing thing that really struck me about this pinot noir was the structure. Pommard is legendary for the body behind their pinots, all I wrote for the palate was “big ass structure”. I would really like to explore more Pommard.
