2002 Chateau Clos Daviaud Les Cimes

Chateau Clos Daviaud has a vineyard of 4 adjoining hectares located upon a clayey slope in the Montagne Saint-Emilion appellation.82% Merlot 18% Cab Franc, I had this a couple of months ago, and thought that it would kill a lot of new world Merlots in the same price range. I have had this three times and have reaffirmed that thought each time, and then some. Dark garnet on the purple side in color. On the nose, earth driven, perfumy basement, dirt, but well balanced with bing cherry, coco, tobacco, pencil shaving, and a cream of raspberry oatmeal at the end, and not much oak to speak of. On the palate, dirt and chalk first then pretty fruit, then great acidity for food, and good tannic structure, and woodspice on the finish. A+ effort, got this for the wineclub people and glad I did. email any comments at bpwinebroker@gmail.com
