2005 Chateau Sargent Lalande de Pomerol

All I can say is that was some of the best tennis I have ever seen. On the nose, the 05 was youthful, medium+ intensity, with more fruit and depth, adding tomato leaf, cassis, ripe dark cherry, cocoa, some oak, and unmistakable Bordeaux terrior. On the palate, dry, softer tannins, great balance, and a really nice finish. Pretty sweet Bordeaux for $25.

Yesterday after a few hours of tennis, we watched the Tivo’d Wimbelton Men’s Championship match. Prime porterhouses, veggies, and the 05 vs 03 of this right banker. On the nose, the 03 was still youthful but was more rustic and dirty, with sour cherry fruit, perfume, tobacco, dusty basement, veggies, and modest oak. On the palate, dry, austere and muscular, medium+ tannin, medium acidity, sour cherry, some vegetal component, moderate finish.

I had never heard of this winery and bought a bottle to try because it was pretty nicely priced for 05 Bordeaux. This not that well known satellite district lies northeast of the more famous Pomerol. On the nose, sound, youthful, med+ intensity, cherry, basement, spice, bittersweet chocolate, earthy, and a bit of oak. On the palate, dry, med+ intensity, good acidity, med tannin, impressive mouthfeel, and a moderate finish.
