2004 Chateau de L’Estang Cotes de Castillon

lestang There was a sweet Bordeaux tasting today, some good value Bordeaux if you can believe that. The vineyard is planted 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc with the average vine age of 35 years. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, blackberry, plums, cherries, veggies, solid earthy backbone, smoke, spice box, and some oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, medium tannin, silky luscious mouth feel, medium acidity, balanced finish of moderate length. Well made nice drinker for under $15.

2000 Chateau Roquevielle Côtes de Castillon

Saw this on the shelf for under $17 at Total Wine in Tampa. Browning edges on garnet in color of medium intensity. On the nose, bouquet, couldn’t decide what fruit there was if there was any at all. Then an hour in, watermelon, and hi-c fruit punch emerged. Ultimately, earth and basement driven, blue cheese, tomato leaf, and tobacco. On the palate, dry, serious structure for a merlot from the right bank. Medium+ tannin, medium acidity, real long finish. Another great wine for under $20. I want more of this for my cellar.
