I was blinded this wine this afternoon, and went Shiraz from South Africa, with Carmenere from Chile as a possibility. Very intense black purple in color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, plum, mulberry, black cherry, black raspberry, black pepper, rubber tire, game, smoke, stemmy character, some mineraltiy, and moderate use of oak. Extremely dense nose that will evolve very nicely. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium+ tannin, some musky man sweat, mulberry, black raspberry, green olive, vanilla bean, stemmy character, medium acidity, medium body, balanced alcohol, not earthy, some judiciously used oak, with a monster finish. Wish I could get more of this standout from Chile, I bet there’s some Carmenere blended in, turned out to be 95 % Cabernet Sauvignon 5 % Merlot.
