2008 Terra Noble Gran Reserva Carmenere

Ruby with some purple. On the nose, youthful, with medium intensity, cherry, tobacco, bell pepper, coffee, with a bit of wet earth, and layered oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, dry, nicely balanced, bright dark berry fruit, inky bell pepper, with layered chocolate, and loaded with roasted espresso bean, with a solid finish. At a previous tasting I thought that this wine nailed the coffee component harder than anything I’d ever had before, at this tasting I liked how balanced with fruit it was.

2005 Maquis Lien Colchagua Chile

maquis_lienInteresting Chilean blend of Syrah, Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, and Malbec. However, very tight out of the bottle, it got better every hour it was opened, even kicking some serious butt the second day. Inky black purple color. On the nose, youthful, medium intensity, black cherry, plum, leather, spice, bell pepper, tar, wet tobacco, and damp earth, with modest oak. On the palate, dry, medium intensity, plummy, leathery, spice laden red blend that got better every sip. With medium tannins, medium acidity, this wine was still kind of wound up and might take some time to reveal all that it has to offer.

2006 Montes Purple Angel Carmenere Colchagua Valley

montes_folly_03An amazing tasting at work the other day. Three vintages of this 100% Syrah from the Apalta Vineyard. Garnet in color. On the nose, evolving, muted nose, medium- intensity, leather, dust, black raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, black pepper, slight earth, and definite oak. On the palate, dry, medium+ intensity, medium tannin, medium acidity, beautiful luscious palate, some meat stick emerged, very nicely balanced, very pretty finish. Hard to say which one I like the most, if I was put on the spot I would say the 04 because of the interesting characteristics that came out.

On the palate, dry, medium tannins, medium+ body, medium acidity, solid wine with nice balance, classic Carmenere, with a lot of depth for not that much dough.

2008 Terra Andina Merlot

terra_andina_merlotThis was a nice youthful treat from Triage tasting today. I am still a fool for the $10 retail wine, and finding ones that really deliver. Dark ruby to black color. On the nose, youthful, medium+ intensity, black cherry, black plum, fresh tobacco, leather, cedar, spice, meat, some oak, and not earthy. On the palate, dry, fruit driven, medium+ intensity, medium+ body, medium tannin, silky wine, with a pretty, layered finish. Over-achiever.
